Foods to Add to Your Hurricane Preparedness List
Shelf-Stable, Easy to Prepare Meals with No Refrigeration
Hurricane season has barely started. But, we already have two named storms, which could indicate a very active season.
There are a lot of hurricane preparedness tasks to get through safely and comfortably. Some are best completed in the days leading up to a storm. But, buying and storing some storm prep food is one you can do at any time.
If the power goes out, like it has for residents of Oklahoma and Texas recently, you’ll need foods you can store without refrigeration and cook without your electric stove.
These are some of the best to keep on-hand.
Canned Meats
There’s a lot out there besides canned tuna. Canned chicken can be used for chicken salad, for soups, and for a ton of other recipes. Sardines are less familiar to a lot of people, but a solid choice for health, taste, and convenience.
Other good choices include canned mackerel, smoked oysters, and canned mussels.
Check the sodium levels, particularly if your stash includes options like Spam, canned roast beef, or corned beef.
