My Top 5 Sun Protection Options
Ten years ago, I took up sailing. I was already getting a lot of sun due to living so far south, but this meant double and triple what I was used to. I spent more time outdoors in the middle of the day than I ever had. And, when you’re on the water, you get a double dose of sun since you get rays not just raining down on you, but reflected back up.
As it happens, I also got married 10 years ago. I bought my first boat a couple of months after my wedding, so there is plenty of documentation of how much effect the sun has had on me.
It only took a few serious sunburns for me to get more serious about curbing my sun exposure. Over the years, I’ve found a few solutions that work extremely well for me.
Biore UV Aqua Rich Watery Essence
This sunscreen is an import from Japan. You can’t buy it on store shelves in the US (yet) but there are a lot of sellers on Amazon offering it.
It’s an incredibly light, non-oily sunscreen. I actually use it as a daily moisturizer.
It does contain alcohol, which can be a controversial ingredient. The alcohol is there to help it spread smoothly, since alcohol is a super effective solvent. However, some people find it drying.
